Black Body Pickguard question

Anyone think this would work without being too obnoxious on a American standard Jazz bass (back body)??

the "fake printed pattern on plastic" thing never appealed to me personally, but black bodies make for a good neutral "canvas" for whatever you want.

i always liked the look of vintage jazz basses with the pickguard removed, but you can't do that on an american standard because of big ugly routs around the pickup.

as such, a straight-up glossy black pickguard sort of recreates the look, all-black with the chrome control plate prominent. it's a really cool look with a maple neck.

I'd say that's purely personal taste. It wouldn't be my choice, but as noted above, black is a good color to try things with. The cost isn't ridiculous to change pickguards.

Personally, I wouldn't. If I had a black bass (which I never plan to have btw) I would use a white or cream guard.

I like black on black, hate white, but its your bass. The guard you tagged would look cool though, likely from a few feet away even though it is a printed pattern, but maybe close up you might no be so happy. In other words, in a pic on the web it looks cool, in your hands under closer inspection it may be a different story. I think you should look at a dark green pearl; very classy.
