BoD Tribute (Custom Paint project)

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi!
Here's the first Photoshop pics of my new project..
Im Sanding the body down and prepping it 4 paint, to get as close to the Bass Of Doom look as possible..

In the end I might ask a local freehand artist to put Jaco on the back of it.. just for extra homage..

Any tip on paint and finishes are much apriciated!!!

Ive put 1 min in looking on old pics to find were the wear and tear is on the bass.. so.. any helping comment in finding the exact "spots of patina" is also welcome!

I can't help you much on replicating the Bass of Doom, but I can tell you that your bass looks amazing as is. Warmoth project, right?

how does it sound?

I live right near Warmoth =D

for any and all info about finishing, go and visit reranch and their message board and tutorials. You should find all you'll need for info there.

Reply's!!!
Thanks for the kind words.. It is a Warmoth project.. the neck was fretted ebony when delivered.. as time whent by I chose to defret it..
It sounds and plays better and faster than any fretless Ive ever tried.. And Ive tried quite a few over a 18 year period..
It's one of those "Can't beleve I got this lucky" basses.. (I baught it 2hand.. for NO money @all..)

Switched from a Low B to a Hi C sting... just to make the setup respond better.. IMO the B string often sounds "dull"...

Ive been playing the last days without the pickguard.. and MAN what a difference.. It plays so much better.. thats when the Idea started to grow.. of turning this, (imo) "perfect playing and sounding" bass into a Tribute bass.. just to get some look to it rather than "no finish" @ all..

If your looking to get a fretless.. wisit your neighbours!!! Their products are KICKASS!!!
