Boomy string

Ever since I put on a set of Fender 9050MLs on my Squier Affinity P-Bass, I've noticed that the E string has a kind of boomy, yet airy sound to it, yet the other strings sound just fine. And if I fret anywhere along the E string it sounds fine, too. Would that be caused by the nut, saddle, or maybe both? And, please, no "that's a cheap bass" stuff, it's all I can afford these days.

Thats a perfectly fine bass. I had one myself for several years,
and I also strung it with 9050's. Check that your string is seated in the nut correctly. I had to open my nut up a bit when I switched to flats.

I normally attribute that type of tone from a string as having the pickup distance not quite in the sweet spot. Check your overall setup.

If you have just switched to this string chances are that you need to adjust your trussrod. Start fresh and put all back to spec, and you should hear your tone improve.
