Brass Just A Nut Help

Sign in to disble this ad
The string height at the nut of my corvette could stand to come down a turn or two. The problem is that the adjustments fot the individual strings are bottomed out. I was thinking of taking each threaded piece out and taking a thread or two off with a file but I am concerned that I might have trouble threading it back into the nut. Any suggestions or other methods? Any and all advice would be appreciated. Thanks

You mean the round parts on the nuts that you can adjust the height with are bottomed out? Can you remove the nut and file the slot down a bit (that the nut sits on). That way it gets lowered, and if you happen to file down a tad too far, you can raise the individual strings height adjusters in the nut.

That would be my solution. You can always email Rob, the Warwick tech. He's helpful and knows what he's talking about. I'd send him an email or give him a call if his phone number is on the site.

saxnbass,

yeah, that's exactly what I mean. the round parts that adjust bottom out. thanks for the suggestion. i was actually thinking to adjust the nut slot but i thought that the solution i came up with would be quick and easy (more of a quick fix). do you foresee a problem with filing off a thread or two?

BTW, i've emailed Rob before on a different issue but got no response. thanks again.

If you do a clean filling, it could work. However, it could also leave a bit of a rough edge hanging over and won't screw in right because the threads don't want to catch right. So, in short, it could be a problem.

Remove the nut itself, from the neck, and have any machine shop take .025 thousandths off the bottom of it, and glue it back in. thats the easiest, and best way to do the job.
