Breaking strings damaging neck

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey all.

At a show last night I broke 2 strings and immediately noticed several of the upper frets on the A string went dead (roughly1-4)

Does breaking strings damage the neck?

Will replacing the D and G strings correct the problem? Or will of I have to get the whole thing set up again?

My guess as to what happened is that with two strings missing, the tension on the neck dropped enough to allow the neck to flatten out.

Replacing the broken strings should fix the problem as the tension they put on the neck should pull it back to the original amount of relief you had before they broke.
