Bridge Choice

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey all.
I'm changing the bridge on an old 5 string.
I have two bridges to choose from. I was wondering if anyone here has any experience with either one of these. You know the usual...pros, cons etc.
1: Kahler hybrid
2: Hipshot A Style (brass version)
Any insight would be great
Thanks all

All of my searches for the Kahler hybrid came up with a trem bridge. Do you need this option? If so, then that's clearly the easiest deciding factor.

Kahler generally has a bit more string-spacing leeway than the Hipshots do, but you can order the Hipshot in your preferred spacing to offset this. The Kahler might be a little lighter, but Hipshot offers aluminum versions of the A-style bridge for weight reduction.

Both companies have a stellar reputation for offering rock-solid products. You can't go wrong with either. What are you looking for in a bridge?

The Kahler is model 7450. It is a fixed bridge. What interested me is It has multiple string spacing adjustments.
I'm just looking for a good quality and good sound characteristics Oh an an easy installation. Isn't that what all want haha

Hipshot. Not cheap but readily available, easy to install, variable string spacing, and the best technical support in town. A fellow TBer has another thread addressing ABM bridges which are similar in terms of features and quality. He's apparently been finding them for next-to-nothing on E-bay.

My previous post points still stand. I don't think you'll notice a tonal difference, and both will be as easy to install.

Id go with the kahler. I tried one of the hipshot a brass bridges and was dissapointed in it. Was only 3 hole instead of 5 for bridge mounting screws, and tone wasnt as good as the previous all brass bridges Ive owned. (BC Rich nj, warwick germany, spector classic, traben array). Just seems a bit harsh in comparrison to those for the little sound tweak to me.
