Bridge Corrosion?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey TBer's

I have had my Warwick Rockbass corvette for about 4 years now and have just recently noticed the springs in the bridge have started to have a slight build up of corrosion.

What causes this and how can I stem/stop the corrosion?

Cheers,
Jordan

The corrosion is either due to environmental factors or sweat.

You can dismantle the bridge, remove the springs, and clean with solvent and a wire brush. This will remove most of the corrosion but won't stop it from continuing.

You might also find replacement springs at a good hardware store. Bring one along to get an exact match.

Environmental factors, sweat & prolonged storage (instrument case) without use.

Check this out.

Only way to stop the corrosion is to oil them. Put less than a drop on your finger tip and spread it around with your thumb. Roll the springs around between finger and thumb. Blot with a paper towel. Doesn't take much at all. Vaseline works well too.

I also do the same thing for the adjustment screws.

I've also used spray furniture wax. Spray it on and let it dry.
Oil lasts longer. Both will hold dust.
