Bridge/Intonation Spector NS2005

I was changing the strings and I noticed that the bridge saddles dont have any screws on them to adjust the intonation. They're just held in place by the string tension. When the bass is tuned you (I) can't seem to move the saddle forward or back to intonate. Only way I can think of intonating is to untune and release the tension to get the saddle to move. That seems self defeating to me. Im also thinking that every time I change strings Im going to have to reintonate the bass.

"Action, Fit, & Finish : 9

* How well was the bass set-up at the factory? (How was the action?)
* How well were the pickups adjusted?
* Did the bass contain any flaws? (misaligned bracing, poorly filed fretwire, finish flaws, poor quality wood, rusted or oxidized hardware, loose tuning pegs, poorly cut nut, poorly fit saddle, noisy pickup selector, loose controls, etc...)

I bought the bass used from my Friend who blew my Alembic away,LOL!!
He had gigged it for many years only to let it go to me in preferance for a Jazz bass. The bass has some slight road wear at the top of the head stock,The frets are original and are in great shape, the P/U and electrics work fine without noise or break up and are all original. The bass is in great condition for a 20 year 0ld instrument and with a bit of Jim dunlop polish it looks almost new.
The action set up is good weither it be high or super low,the rod adjusts well and the desired relief is easly obtainable. The neck does need a day to settle after rod adjustment but stays in the same place gig after gig.The bridge adustment is the Spectors only down fall with no easy intonation adjustment from the individual floating string blocks and height adjustment can be a pain too because the string blocks are compress locked together via side grub screws. FWIW, they move under full string tension when the bridge is un-pinched -- just don't be a girly man about it.

If you loosen the hex screws on each side of the bridge, you can move the saddle and adjust the heights individually, and then tighten the screws again...if you use the same set of strings you shouldn't have to move them again on restringing...it's really not that big a deal, that Harmony Central review sounds like buddy got a little frustrated....

+1 with the good Reverend. My old NS-4, once set up, did not budge, and never went out of intonation while I kept the same strings on it.

The saddles, however, did chew away pretty quickly under the Spector exposed cores - I ended up filing them out so I could use normal strings and avoid any more costly string breakages.
