Can somebody list in "dummy terms" what advantage differant materials used in the bass plate of a bridge and the saddles actually gives you?

Supposedly, aluminum bridges are brighter sounding with more mids to highs. Brass, while being heavier, lends more to the bass end of things.

I've got a little experience building with wooden bridges as well. They seem to give basses a more "woody" natural tone (especially on fretlesses). The harder the wood the more "punchy" the tone gets too.
