Bridge problem

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi. The saddle on my G string is as low as it will go, but the action still seems a little high. The rest of the saddles sit well in relation to the necks action. The string seems rather lifeless between the 2nd and 8th frets. I know it is not the string. I have not touched the neck yet. This is a 50's reissue Precision bass.

Thanks

How is the relief on your neck? Is it twisted? The lifelessness of the G string can usually be attributed to having a dead spot. If yours is dead from A to D#, that is quite a large dead spot. I suppose it could very well be an improperly adjusted pickup. I always make sure that the neck relief is adjusted properly before I make any adjustments to the saddle height on the bridge. After the neck and bridge are adjusted, all I ever do is give the truss rod a tweak here and there, as the neck moves in relation to temperature and humidity.

Im kind of the opposite. I tweak the rod last. The saddles are easy enough for me to adjust. My tech fixed it last night though. He gripped the neck and twisted it while tightening the backplate screws. It worked. He said it's very common on Fender's and an easy fix. Thanks for the reply.
