Bridge reccomendations?

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm building a frankenjazz and I plan to use the bridge from my Squier VM Fretless. That means I'll need a new bridge for my Squier. Any suggestions on an upgrade that will enhance harmonics or otherwise improve the sound? Are high-mass bridges as much of an improvement for fretless basses as they are for fretted?

I don't agree that high mass bridges are any improvement for fretted basses. They do make the character of the bass different, but for Fender-style instruments I prefer low mass bridges.

My favorite Fender drop-in high mass Fender replacement is the Smith bridge. http://kensmithbasses.com/accessorie...th_bridges.htm It replaced a Badass II on my Palaedium and I couldnt' be happier. The budget gotoh models are great also. If you don't mind drilling holes the Schaller roller bridge is excellent.

I would suggest you get a Leo Quan bad ass II. its a saddle lock bridge which is essentially designed as a replacement for fender bridges. Meaning no new holes.
Honestly though if i were you i would want to use the bad ass II on the bass you are building just because it will probably be a higher quality instrument therefore it would make more sense to put the better bridge on. (imo)
http://www.leoquan.com/index.html here is the official website. Also i think guitar center carries them. not 100% sure about that though, anyway what ever local music store you go to should be able to order one if you decide for one of them.

oh one other thing i forgot, if you are really in for being creative (would require a bit of drilling) you could put a G&L saddle lock bridge in. In my opinion they are some of the better bass bridges around. They are similar in working to a bad ass II and provide some nice sustain.

Gotoh 201 or the Hipshot B or Vintage Style. What's cool about the Hipshots is you don't have to thread your strings thru a hole...great for quick change
