Bridge replacement for a Jackson?

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm new around these parts. I've been playing guitar for 27 years and I recently picked up the bass to do an 80's metal side project with some bros from other bands. So far I'm loving it and it has made my guitar playing tighter so I'm starting to take bass a little more seriously. I've got my left eye on a jackson cmg with the janky looking convertible bridge. If I were to buy this bass, what would be a decent bridge replacement to consider? I hate to bust right out of the gates with a question, but that's how I surfed onto this board in the first place. Any help would be awesome. Thanks.

If it's the standard five-hole bridge, I'd say a solid option would be gotoh-201. The badass bridges are good if you feel like dropping some extra coin.

I'd recommend you search through some older threads that talk more on the subject.

A bridge like this one?

Looks pretty sturdy to me, I would have to play it first to really decide whether or not I liked it.

Badass II lines right up with the five-hole pattern on many basses, or Hipshot A-style bridges are very well liked around here and you can get them with a few different screw patterns including the five-screw Fender-style mounts.

But if this is just a side project, I'll +1 the Gotoh 201. Its solid, and a lot cheaper.

Hipshot for upper end and gotoh for lower price onavees. Baddass bridges are liked by many to. However to me they add an annoying treble zingyness. This is caused by the metal formula used in them imo. Fave bridge Ive owned and used is the black locking ones like found on BC Rich imports and spectors. Partly due to easy top load for string changes instead of haveing to guide string thru hole in back wall of bridge. & partly due to zero adjustment screw tops sticking up above saddles.

The gotoh 201 is very good budget bridge. But with low to very low action there are screw tops sticking up a bit out the top of the saddles and no quick load for string changes,
