Bridge replacement question..

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a 2006 SR506 and was thinking of hot-rodding it a bit. My plans for the future are to change to gold hardware, put in a different preamp, possibly change the pickups, and install a new bridge. The bridge I've decided on is a Hipshot A with piezos pre-installed. I know that I might have to end up drilling new holes, etc to get it to fit correctly.

Now, the issue I'm having is that the smidgen of searching I've done for a bridge with string spacing close to stock (16.5mm) has yielded nada. The closest I've found so far is 18mm, which in overall width (center of B string to center of C string) would be a difference of about 0.25". I'm guessing that if I went with the 18mm, I'd have to replace the nut with wider spacing as well, but how would the strings be affected? Would slightly wider string spacing be doable on the same neck?

I was debating on whether this should go in the LC forum or here. I hope this padawan chose correctly.

I'm sure there are some questions that I should ask that I haven't thought of. Thank you in advance for any help and thank you for your time.
