Bridge for a six string set up in F#

Sign in to disble this ad
Where on Earth would I find a bridge for a bass set up as F#BEADG? The F# can be anywhere from 160-185, as long as the bridge can handle it.

I played a show last night with two B strings. One was 130 one was 145 (tuned to F#). It wasn't too muddy and the intonation was set properly, but it barely sits in the saddles and it is a bit floppy.

Thanks in advance.

Any bridge should work fine.

If you're worried that the diameter of the F# string will exceed the stable capacity of the bridge saddle, look into the Kahler bridges (no, not the whammy bars! they make a 6-string fixed bridge) with huge saddles.

I've used anything from .145 to .185 tapercore strings for F#0, with Hipshot type-B bridges (barrels, not side adjusting saddles). No modifications needed, no problems.

I had to file the bridge slots to get a .145 through which is what I'm using now for my F#. I suppose I could order the strings and attempt to file the bridge more.

If I filed it once, I should be able to file it more. If anything happens, I'll look into the Kahler bridges or even the Hipshots. The bridge that is on it is a typical ESP/LTD bridge.

Would the Hipshot A-style work just as well? What about the individual string bridges?

EDIT:
Is this the Kahler bridge?
