Bridge/string spacing question

Sign in to disble this ad
Will a gotoh bridge give you the proper string spacing for nordstrand big singles in the '60s pup position? I noticed a loty of people on here use hipshot bridges with their nordstrands and I didn't know if there was a reason for it.

I have a gotoh 201 and I'm thinking of picking up a MIM J body off the 'bay. I'm not sure how many mm's the string spacing is on it.

201 is 19mm. The "standard" string spacing for a 4 strings is 20mm (fender). Nordstrand (like most of the other brands) are "direct" replacement for this standard spacing.
Still, the difference is so small that even with a 19mm spacing (I have installed this set up also in a 18mm s.s. bass without any problem) the magnetic field of the pole pieces perfectly covers the movement of the strings:

so long story short, You gonna be fine with the 201 coupled with Nordstrand pups.

Hope it make sense

Maurillo,
How bout Spector basses string spacing? Is it the same with the rest of other basses? I know it's .75 but what's .75 equal to? 19mm or 20mm or what?
I currently playing Fender Am Dlx Jbass, and now i want something with a different character with a diffrnt string spacing or tonal maybe.. So Spector came accross..

Worth noting, though, that a number of players have obsessed about the strings not lining up over the pole pieces on their bass. A 1 millimeter difference may not seem like a lot, but that's 3 millimeters over the course of 4 strings. Before you decide what bridge is for you, consider if you find it acceptable for a string to be 3mm off the centre of the pole pieces. Look at a ruler before you choose.

Are you sure it's .750? the few spector e I saw were narrower (18 or 17,5 mm), but I'm not sure.
0.750 = 19mm
0.708 = 18mm

WRONG! the A and D string are 0,5mm off and the E and G are 1,5mm off center (with a string spacing of 19mm over a pup with 20mm spacing between pole pieces).

Yup, it's .75" written on the website. So, .75 = 19mm correct?
