Bridge warping?

Sign in to disble this ad
So I sent in a bass to be repaired thinking I was seeing a lift going on with the bridge. The manufacturer emailed me back after having it a few days and said it's not a lift, but the bridge had become warped. Anyone have any experiences like this?

Warp factor?

Yup. Happened to my 1980 Vantage Avenger about 15 years ago. I took the warped bridge in to Long & McQuade Music in Winnipeg, where I had gotten the base. Dude comes back in 30 seconds with a perfect replacement. 20 dollars and 20 minutes later I'm rockin' again.

Never saw/heard of it happening again, till now. That's two.

Stay low, buddy.

I can happen, but it's likely the bridge was warped to begin with and never noticed.

Although, if it had a typical Fender bridge design with the screws moved forward, I could see a weak metal warping while under constant pressure (160 lbs) applied to the weaker portion of the bridge.

The bass is a Dean Bromberg 5 string. I noticed the gap between the body and bridge growing, so I contacted them and sent it in. The bridge uses 4 screws, under the E through G strings. I noticed the worst part of the lift/warp was on the B string side. Kinda figured they would've used an extra screw just because.....

For those who might care.... the bass is being sent back to me with a new bridge installed, with no hassle on Deans end of things. I wasn't sure how they would deal with this but they did me good. Kudos to Dean.
