Broken neck heel of Moses neck

Sign in to disble this ad
While standing in the bass stand, neck joint of my bass is broken! Just loud crack and... neck and body disjointed.

Here are some pics.

How do I repair this broken neck heel? Just fill the broken part with hard epoxy and after it sets, drill new holes?

I will meet luthier within a few days. But before I meet him I'd like get some info from you TBers.

Thats a job for a professional if I ever saw one!! he would have to remove the screws from the body, and save the big piece that broke out, then remove the inserts from the broken piece and stewart-mcdonald super-glue(med) it back in place, they make threaded(inside/outside) steel inserts(NOT the wire coil type, but an actual insert) for repairing stripped-out aluminum threads, find a size thats close, drill the holes in the neck heel at least down another length of the insert, thread the hole with the proper tap with the tapered tip ground flat so it bottoms out, and with super-glue(med) on the threads, screw the inserts into the threaded holes(they have a notch on one side for a regular screwdriver), you'll also have to replace the screws with the right thread for the inserts cut to the proper length. Any drillpress savy repair person should be able to repair this. GOOD LUCK!!
