Broken tuner... Replacements?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey all, I have had an Ibanez SR 706 for a little over a year now. Yesterday during a practice, one of my tuners on the treble side decided to break. I believe they are Gotoh tuners and the plastic white band between the head and the tuner housing snapped leavin the head really loose. I was wondering if they actually are Gotoh and why I can only find them online in chrome, black, and gold. What color are my current tuners labeled as on my SR 706 since they appear darker than standard chrome but not black? Chrome? Where is the best place to find a new tuner? Sorry if it's a little wordy! Any help is appreciated!

Why don't you just replace the broken washer / spacer? IIRC, the tuner head can be removed (should be a PH screw) and the spacers are probably a metal O ring and the aforementioned washer. Please confirm if this is correct or post a pic. I might have the parts on hand....and a heckuva lot cheaper than a new tuner.

Looks like the replacements would be Gotoh GB7s to me. The ones on your bass are probably made for Ibanez special by Gotoh or a lower-end manufacturer.

If you purchase from this site, you want the ones described with the threaded bushing instead of the screw-in bushing. Dont make the same mistake i did

Thanks, I really appreciate it, folks. After taking a much better look at it, I think you're right about the problem, Riis. Here's a couple of pics to confirm. If I can get out of buying a new tuner, that would be awesome!

Okay, here's the deal....PM me with your address and I'll mail ya one or two of the washers. Is the split metal O-ring intact?

You're a good guy.

I'm the same way with bicycle stuff-- throw away nothing and repair all my friend's bikes. Kudos to you!
