Buffing fretts on modulus Phenolic Fingerboard?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey all, when I change the strings on my wood top basses I buff the fretts with super fine #0000 steel wool and then polish the frettboard with lemon oil. My new Modulus Q6 is my first graphite neck and is it ok to buff them with the same steel wool, without adding the oil of course, or is there a better way to clean the fretts? The folks at Modulus refered me to the user manual which did not cover this topic. Any help is greatly appreciated.

a cloth is all you need, I would avoid the steel wool.

Tape the board off with blue painters tape, and then lightly hit the frets with 0000 steel wool. It's also a good idea to tape the neck pickup, to help keep the steel wool fibers away (they get pulled in by the magnetism, and are tough to get off). You may also want to try using Micromesh on the frets, which is a bit expensive but doesn't leave any mess like the steel wool.
