Sign in to disble this ad
i am finally decided of building a warmoth bass, but i dont have much money so i cant buy the body and the neck at the same time, i am going to buy the neck first and put it in my squier VM p bass, but how would i go about adjusting the neck when installed?
http://www.warmoth.com/bass/options/...eck_pocket.cfm
you can see the hole that is needed in the body to make the adjusment
also does warmoth offer any routing for BAIII bridge? i cant seem to find one(i`ll email warmoth about this later)

BTW this are the specs for my future warmoth bass
Alder jazz bass body
passive P/J quarter pounder pups
T/V/T/V controls
Maple jazz bass neck with satin finish
21 small frets over a rosewood freatboard
schaller tuners
BAIII bridge(maybe BAII)
olypic white body
black pickguard
mother of pearl dot inlays
DR lo-rider strings

depends on how handy you are. theres tons of finishing details that make a bass perfect when you get around to setting it up for playing.

drilling holes for the neck bolts, tuners and pickguard, if not done carefully, can be disastrous. not to mention cutting and installing a nut.

its a fun process for sure, just be ready to do some work....

if your body doesn't have a truss adjusting slot, then you have to do it the old fashioned as with vintage Fenders.

Here's a link to vintage truss adjustment, in this article, I agree with waiting a day between adjustments.
It's not that hard, just be patient.
good luck!

If you are new to building basses, I would recomend letting Warmoth drill the neck mouting holes on the neck and body. Then they will be sure to line up exactly right. However, it is possible that the mounting holes might not line up directly with the holes on your VM p-bass. If that happens, you may end up having to wait for the warmoth body.

If they line up, and you need to adjust the truss rod, my suggestion would be to get a file and make a groove at the neck pocket. That way you won't have to loosen the neck attachment to adjust the truss rod. You can always get a new pickguard to cover the groove later.

In the end however, I would just save your pennies and buy the neck and body at once.

No BAIII routing option. BAII is the same as the Gotoh 201.

could you explain about this finishing details?
basically my current plan is to buy the neck, then take it to a friend of mine(pro luthier) to install a bone nut, have a look at the neck. and then install it on my squier
anything else i should know?

If you're taking it to a pro luthier he can explain in person to you a lot more than we can here. But first, do some reading up on putting together basses and guitars from parts. The Stewart macDonald site has a couple good books about that. Good place to start.
