buzz on certain frets (when pushing not plucking)

so i have a few spots on my pedulla thunderbolt where the fret will buzz when i push it down with my finger...its barely even a buzz, more like a rattle, but you can hear it when you switch to that note sometimes. i can play the note fine and there is no buzz, but you hear the little clanky buzz when i switch to that fret.

does that make sense at all? i adjusted the truss rod both ways but all that really did was move the buzz down or up the fret board. and when i raise or lower my string height it doesn't really seem to help much. i haven't really tried playing it at really high volume so it may not even be an issue but i was wondering if anyone had any advice. thanks!

In lieu of what's been going on around here lately, I'd say just get rid of those damn pesky frets.

You are probably hearing the string buzzing behind the note. Obviously that note is not buzzing through the pickup or we'd assume you need a fret job. If you are playing a C on the E string you are in the middle of the fingerboard. Because there is a slight curve to the neck the string can still sound between the nut and the C. That's what it's been for me anyway. If you have a very straight neck it'll probably happen on a few notes.

Yes. It mainly happened on a Fender P Bass for me, but your mileage may vary.

I had a similar situation any my luthier said my nut was too low. So, he put some epoxy on the nut, let it dry, and then sanded the slots down so that there was space between the nut and the 3rd fret. This solved the problem on my 6th fret buzzing.

i actually just put on some new strings (sadowsky flats) and the problem is completely gone...it could be the higher tension and slightly higher gauge on the E and A strings that did it. either way i'm happy!
