Buzzing, but not on the frets

I just slightly adjusted the action on my 98/99 MIM Fender Jazz Deluxe V and seem to have introduced a strange problem.

I raised the A string, and now I don't have fret buzz on the frets but I do on the head stock. Actually I can hear the buzz when I play other strings as well. Its pretty annoying and it seems to be a new problem.

There is a string retainer on the headstock, its a bar type the the bottom 3 strings feed through. It is not loose so I don't think the buzz is coming from there. Sounds more like the nut area.

Possible to raise the action to much and introduce some buzz at that spot?? Very strange.

How did you raise the action? Truss rod or bridge?

Does it only occur on a certain note?

Try capo'ing at the first fret, which should solve any nut-related buzz.

When it's happening, try touching various items all around the headstock area. That'd let you know if something is resonating or vibrating.

If you loosened the truss rod, you might have loosened it a touch too much.

Is it a jingly, metallic rattle? You might have a loose collar around one of the tuner shafts. Gently tighten them all with a little crescent wrench.

loose collar seems most likely - I'll check those first. I raised at the bridge, the relief appears to be set just right. I'll check back on those collars and post back.
