| buzzing frets (guitar)

This has happened to me before on all of my guitars and basses and I have gotten it fixed. I'm not exactly sure what causes the problem and I would like to figure that out. I would also like to find out how to fix this myself so I don't have to keep going into a store to get it fixed. Right now it is the worst on my guitar and the first through third frets are buzzing on both the high and low E strings. All suggestions would help. Thanks.
