Buzzing noise: help

Sign in to disble this ad
Just pick up a new Cort Artisan A5 and the action was a wee bit low for my taste so I decided to heighten it. I know a lot less than most players about adjustments so please help. I heightened all the saddles a tiny bit and they're all even, but the B and G buzz at the nut. The E, A, and D strings sound fine. Any suggestions?

Woo Hoo!!!!!!!!!!! Im not the only one! I also own the a-5 (first off what do you think about it) and i also have this problem i love the action but it does make the fretts a problem. and the problem really isnt so much buzzing, its that the strings are hitting the fretts after you pluck the strings, i took mine to get it set up, and some fretts were dressed, but i didnt want to loose the action that i had. the tech told me that the bass may need to come in a few more times over the next year or so to adress problems like this, but after the first set up it mostly went away, Now this is going to help you with your dynamics because i eliminated what was left of the buzzing by learning to play more litely even when im playing fast and heavy. So get it set up and practice how hard you play and hopefully things work for you the way they did for me

well bud what i did is i raised the action, it got rid of the buzz when i was playing, but it added some strange buzz by the nut when i played the B and G open. Definately raise the action, it doesnt hit the frets at all(although it is harder to play). Just make sure you know what you're doing(as i dont )

Sometimes it's just worth the $$'s to take it to a tech and have it set up just the right way. Heaven knows, I have a heck of a time figuring out what to do with a truss rod! I just had strings put on a new bass I bought, and he did a setup in front of me while he put them on and came up with similar problems depending on how he set up the truss rod vs. the saddles. I had DR's put on and they're sometimes a liitle tough to set up because they're hand wound and not as consistant as factory strings. Lots to consider in a setup. I'd rather find a good tech and get the help from him/her.
Good luck.
