Buzzing Nut = snapped C string

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi, i have a status fretless 6 string and I recently got a new set of strings for it. The C string didn't fit into the nut however and I asked for some advice on another forum and they said I simply need to file the nut slightly. So i got someone to file it but the string started buzzing when played open.

Now the C string has just snapped.

If I can't get any advice here I guess i'll need to take it to an expert but I would have thought this is something very minor.

I luckily found a shop that sells replacement C strings so I just need to fix the buzzing

Is it possible that the nut was slot in the nut was filed too low even thou it was ment to be filed wider to acomodate the new C string. Also if the string snapped in that exact spot whoever filed it didn't do a realy good job, the edges are probbably too sharp. Try adding some paper or something in to the nut slot under the string and see if that sorts out the buzz. Some people use super glue and baking soda to bild the nut slot back up, but you might need a new nut.
