Buzzing at the nut

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys, my pbass is buzzing when I hit the open A... If I apply a tiny bit of pressure behind the nut then it stops. Is the slot too wide? How can I fix it? It hasn't been modified in any way.

The strings are also very old, would changing them maybe fix this?

Wind the string closer to the peg-head...as far down on the post as it will go.

I had exactly the same problem as you (OP). This solved it for me.

When you change the strings, make sure you have more wraps around the A string tuner shaft than you normally would, to give the string enough downpressure. This is very common.
