Buzzing on random individual frets

Sign in to disble this ad
Disclaimer: I DID do a search, couldnt find this particular question. That should nail all the useless "click that Search button" responses.

So, I have about a half-dozen frets on my 6 string that buzz so bad, they're completely useless to play. I don't think theres any before the 5th fret, but a couple strings on the 6th fret buzz, and random notes on the higher registers. I thought it was uneven frets, but its not uniform on one string or one fret, they're kind of all over the place. My action is set very low, but every other note sounds excellent, therefore I don't want to raise the action just for these few outliers and make the whole bass harder to play.

Any suggestions?

Have you been playing it a while? Probably the frets have worn unevenly. Take it to a luthier to have them leveled and get a set up while you are there. Figure 150 or so for a level and a set up. I know this can be really frustrating. I had a guitar with one bad NOTE on it.

Shiz. Well, I'll see if anyone else can offer suggestions, otherwise I'm raising the action. The $20 in my bank account says I can't get any professional assistance with this.

Good luck. Raising the action might help, as might a trussrod tweak

Really sounds like a classic need for a fret levelling. If you really want your action low, it may well be worth your while to search for someone who can do a quality job for you. Go for the best you can find - why would you settle for less?

+1 - Yeah raise the action a little, and check for some neck relief.
