buzzing sound

Hey guys, Im not sure if this is the correct forum but anyways.
I have a squier p-bass and have had it for 3 years, but just recently I am getting a buzzing hum from the strings when I play notes from about the 9th fret and higher. This happens both acoustically and when plugged in.
At first I thought it was just my picking but it happens when i play fingerstyle as well.
I haven't changed the strings since I bought it, but have boiled and cleaned them a couple of times.

Does anyone know how to fix the buzz, or would this just mean its time for new strings?

P.S. Im only an amateur and am not sure how to adjust the neck or change the height of the strings...as I haven't had to yet.

Thank you
Lukas

Have the strings changed and the bass set up by a professional.

3 years is a long time to go without a setup and be 'buzzless' untill now

Have a look here and elsewhere on the net to eventually learn how to set it up yourself. It's not hard and the tools are inexpensive and will end up paying for themselves the first time around.

Check your neck relief. Capo the 1st & last fret. Check the "gap" [relief] centered between them. A credit card thickness is good.

QFT.

Maybe spend some time with the technician, or ask if you can watch he or she work on the bass?
