How much more should I leave next time when I get new strings? Also, I have been playing strings ranging from .45 to 1.0 or 1.05. Does the size of the string affect the rattling as well? If so, should I get thicker or thinner strings? I play a 4 string MIM Fender Jazz Bass. Also, regarding the strings I'm looking for a warmer tone as opposed to the very bright ones I've been playing. I play most genres, but mainly rock. Help would be appreciated, thanks. |
Then he didn't, "fix your action", did he?
Play these strings open, and reach back behind the nut, squeeze the offending strings; if the buzz stops, you are, in fact, in need of more string break behind the nut. You may want to add a string tree to hold the E & A strings down, if this proves to be the problem.
If this isn't it, you probably have a couple of nut slots that are too deep;
this certainly should be addressed by whomever set this bass up. A shim under the nut, reslot the D&G strings. Often, however, these nuts break when they're being pulled, and, frankly, I'd superglue it back together when it's going back in, on top of the shim.
