Can anyone help??!!!!!!!!

Sign in to disble this ad
When I play notes from the 8th fret and above on my low B string, I get horrible overtones, like there are 2 notes a semi-tone apart, being played at the same time. Obviously only playing one note and all other strings are muted to stop any harmonics. What is the reason for this? Its so annoying!!!!! The notes doing this have no punch, unlike the other 4 strings, and sound like rubbish. Is it a setup problem? Pickup/electronic problem?

Cheers!

PS: Its a Lakland 5501 with Nordy Fatstacks and Aggy OBP3 pre! Also has been professionally re-fretted with medium jumbos.

Sounds like your pickups may be too close to the strings. The magnetic field of the pickup interferes with the motion of the string, and gives you weird harmonics. Try lowering the pickups an eighth inch or so and see if improves.

It's typical that you only get this when you play on the higher frets, because that brings the strings even closer to the p'ups.

And last but not least, change your strings making sure you wind them with the tuning machine from the very beginning. Don't cheat and do the first wrap by hand. Doing so can twist the string and wreak havoc on intonation...it can literally ruin the string.
