hey, im currently thinking of buying this bass:

http://bass-guitars.musiciansfriend....er-?sku=526799

and i was wondering if it was a good bass (if anyones owned or played it) and also if a pickguard can be put onto it. I was thinking of buying that bass then putting a mirror pickguard.

any help is appreciated, thanks.

A standard jazz PG might not work all that well since there isn't a traditional control plate on that one. I think there are some places that will cut you a custom one though if you trace out what you want.

I'm not really a jazz bass kind of guy. Had a nice one - sold it. I could never get used to the small neck - different strokes for different folks.

You can put a PG on anything - you just have to have it custom-made and take good measurements for them to build to. Better yet, make a template for the PG builder.

I saw that bass on Musician's Friend as well, and will probably search for it next time i'm out and about...I wanna play it.

You could probably use a standard Jazz pickguard, but sevenyears is right...there would probably be an awkward-looking 'stop' where the control cover would normally begin. Standard Jazz PG's don't cover the pots like the P's do. Or it may look cool to you like that.

ETA: On second glance...i'm not 100% sure the NECK would line up right with a standard PG, since it's a 24 fret....go with a custom PG, definitely.
