Can't access truss rods -- strips screwed?

Sign in to disble this ad
I recently ordered a saga bass kit and finally got some allen rods so I decided to set up my original bass, which as far as I know, hadn't ever been done. Intonation was pretty easy once I got the hang of it. I went to adjust the truss rod, and the screws wouldn't come out of the truss rod cover. I think the screws are stripped, and I can't get them out to remove the cover. How can I fix this?

Force the cover off, then fill the holes with toothpicks and wood glue. Then screw the cover back on. It ain't graceful, but it will work. And be careful of the finish.

Do I need the cover? It doesn't seem to serve much purpose, unless the wood is unfinished underneath.

the cover is strictly cosmetic.

Hi.

Depending of the heads, neddele-nose pliers or a Dremel with a correct size drill bit is what I use if the cover has to be saved.

If it's just a regular cover, break it first as suggested earlier, and then use the needle nose pliers to get the screws out.
