cant get me action low on my thumb

Sign in to disble this ad
I just got a thumb b/o and i cant seem to get the action low enough without a lot of fret buzzing. Is it passable that the neck is wrong or needs sanding?

it's hard to tell without seeing it, it could be a few different things or a combination of all of them

your string nut, relief in the neck, bridge saddle height, strings and playing style will all influence how low you can set your action--as will the condition of your frets

can you elaborate, ie what you've done, what you've checked, etc.?

i tried adjusting everything, neck, bridge saddle, nut...frets look ok but when the strings are high enough not to buzz they are 3/4" off the high end of the neck

If it's that bad, and the bass is in good condition, then your neck relief is probably off. The neck should bow up slightly towards the nut. If it's perfectly straight you'll have a hard time getting the action low without a lot of buzz.

I had that set pretty low without a problem but I am a light player. But FWIW it took a fair amount of time to get the action dialed in just right.

It may sound weird but did you try raising the just-a-nut? I had the neck set almost flat so I'm sure it needs a little relief.

Call me if you like.

The warwick manual (also on their website if you don't have one) tell you how to set up to factory specifications, which is incidentaly rather low action.
