Can't straighten the neck? (Fender Fretless)

Sign in to disble this ad
It appears the screw for the truss-rod on my 88' MIJ Fender Fretless Jazz is at the bottom of the neck. I'm going for some low action on my fretless, and I noticed my neck has a bit of relief. I go to tighten the screw and it doesn't budge. This thing is like TIGHT.

What do you recommend I do? I've tried every way to turn it.

There's a few things to try:
1. Heat the screw with a soldering iron
2. Use a small socket and gently tap with a small hammer
3. Use some WD-40 or Liquid Wrench
or all of the above

See if you can loosen it. If so, remove it completely, clean/lightly oil the threads, and reinstall. If it still doesn't flatten the neck before bottoming out, remove it again and install a small flat washer onto the rod, then put the nut back on and try again. A spacer, such as a small washer, is often required with Fender necks.

dmusic148 has it right - absolutely BACK it out first - don't keep trying to tighten it.

In other words, don't get impatient like I would - do it right like I would hope to do it!
