Cant Track Down A Fret Answer...Help

Sign in to disble this ad
Ive checked a bunch of different sites about fret jobs and dressiong but, cant get an answer to my problem. The frets on my Spector Rebop tear my hand up on the bottom side of the neck. I would assume, you would simply file down the frets until smooth with the neck but, I dont wanna screw up my neck so, does anyone have any advice on this procedure?

tape off your neck when working your frets, and make sure not to hit the tops (where your strings are) should help

Or take it to a repair shop to have the frets filed. Shouldn't be expensive.

I bought a file and have tried to do it myself, but it is harder than I thought.

Depending on how much work you need to have done, it will probably cost you less to bring it to a shop and have it done by a pro than it would cost to buy the tools to do it yourself. I'm sure you could do it, but a pro has experience. If you like to DIY and think you might have to do it again in the future the go to StewMac.com and get yourself some files.

Take it to a tech for pete's sake. This is the best time of year as wood shrinks and the culprit fret ends will be more evident.

Good luck.

The tools used to do this job cost roughly $50.00 not including buffing supplies. A pro will charge between $10-20 to do the job. Sometimes they will do it for $5 (or free) if you're having a setup done.
