capo for fretless

I've recently been tuning my bass DGCF. I've just started relearning Teen Town and it uses a ton of open string notes. I've tried putting on a standard capo, but since it's a rubbery bit that touches the strings, all I get is a muted sound on my open strings.

Is there a capo that has enough tension to actually provide a decent note, or a capo that uses something harder than rubber to touch the strings.

I reckon this problem could be reasonably regular problem, which is why I'd rather do this than use a capo. My bass at the moment sounds perfect and plays perfect for my needs, so the littlest change, the better.

Capo's don't come anywhere near my Fretless basses.
I don't want my fingerboards destroyed when the capo mashes the strings down.

I experimented with de fretting an old acoustic guitar, and something i noticed was that i had a hard time fretting down on the high E strings because the string was so thin that my finger would sort of just wrap around it to the fingerboard beneath and not push down all the way.

I think that a similar thing would happen with a Capo on a fretless.
It would push down hard on one side, but the thinner strings would not have firm contact.
