Caring for a wooden bodied bass? Ibanez

Sign in to disble this ad
Hopefully the right place to Post this question.(my first here).

I have a new Ibanez EDB550 - unpainted wooden body.

Do I need to oil or treat the wood in anyway?

What about the back of the neck and fretboard?

If answer is yes to anything - what with?

(I guess the strings would not be partial to oil).

Does it look like this?

If it is oil finished then - if not high gloss - it's probably similar to danish oil. You need to buy a good quality hard furniture wax and rub in/buff up once every few months when it starts to lose it's lustre, to keep the wood fed and protected - though it won't protect against knocks and bumps, just ingress of oil/dirt/moisture, etc.
Fretboard should not need treating, but I like to feed mine with a drop of fingerboard oil every 6 months even if it's rosewood or ebony.

Identical twins except mine had a dark father/mother.

Thanx. I will apply a little oil and wax from time to time.

(I figure it cant hurt).

My other basses have always been laquered - thats why I asked.

Really like the light wood look as well. Lucky I did not have a choice at the time between the two and I am very pleased with mine.
