Question Carvin LB76 Bridge

Sign in to disble this ad
I just had my 98' LB76 truss rod replaced by Carvin and I'm thinking of replacing the Bridge. What bridge would you suggest for replacement. Carvin replacement bridges are $120or so. What is the best bang for my buck?

What bridge is currently on there and what don't you like about it?

I have two '05ish Carvins that have two different styled Hipshot bridges (one has the piezo saddles and the other does not) and both work great.

This bridge does not have piezo saddles and I'm not thrilled about the dual allen screw lifts on the saddles.

the replacement carvin will probably be good..

their new bridges are great. the older ones (im not sure about what they used in '98) were a little strange sometimes.

It is very strange. Strings can either be loaded at the foot of the bridge or just behind the saddles. I'm at work or I'd post a picture. Thanks for your info. I think I'll order a new brige from Carvin next month.

Sounds like the dreaded Wilkinson Break-o-matic bridge!

Its probably a Wilkenson. Not the best bridge around for sure.
Carvin has a hipshot replacement, be sure to get the right one for your string spacing. The reason there are 2 height screws on each saddle is so you can match the radius of your neck when adjusting the saddles height. I've never had a string break with this bridge in 12 years, I must be lucky? I found if you try to use the slots at the bottom of the bridge there is not enough angle to get a good witness point, so I put the ball end on the post. The problem with this is its very hard to install a string without some twisting. It can be done but its PIA.

Sounds to me like it could be a hipshot B-style bridge. I have an '03 LB75 with the piezo that looks like it has the B-style. They have since gone to the A-style.

The main difference between them is that the A style has seperate chanels machined into the block for each saddle. The B does not. I have another bass with a hipshot B-style bridge which i bought from Carvin (not a carvin bass). It does have a feature where you can load the strings through the body or through the bridge.

I don't mean to hi-jack the thread but how was your experience with the Carvin truss rod replacement? The rod on my LB75 has recently gone bad and I am looking to have it repaired. I have heard one story where Carvin replaced a truss rod and the owner said the bass was never the same. He recommended that I cut my losses on the bass.

I have another post going on my truss rod problems. You can reply there if you would rather.

Truss Rod Replacement Carvin LB75

I have been happy with both of my Hipshot B-style bridges. Actually Carvin is getting rid of all their B-style since they are going to the A. You can find them on Ebay listed by carvin corporation. You could take a look there to see if that is what you have and if you wanted to try one the prices are pretty cheap.
