Changing Bridge With Different Screw Holes

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey, the bridge I have right now in my custom jazz bass is screwed to the body with 4 screws. I bought a replacement bridge that screws to the body with only 3 screws. This shouldn't be a problem right? I mean I know I will have to re-drill some new holes for the new bridge but the previous drill holes from the old bridge shouldn't affect this procedure right? Thanks

Correct the only time it would be a problem is if it the old screw holes were next to new 1s . Then you would fill the old holes with tooth picks & glue , Like a strap button

Well that is my case then since I'm going to have to fill the old holes with toothpicks since the new bridge will only need 3 screws and seems to be in different positions than the old screw holes.

Crappy...

The better solution is to drill out the old holes, insert and glue in hardwood dowels, cut them off level with the body, then re-drill the holes. It's not any fun.

If you could find a bridge with mounting holes to match the existing ones, it might be worth the $$ to buy it.

That's what I did for a new tuner on my headstock. Drilled larger holes to accomodate a maple dowel with epoxy...it worked out very good..but yes, it was a pain the the...

I'm putting a fender deluxe bridge on a jazz bass body that has a standard Mexican fender bridge... Will it line up correctly or will I have to do work?

Just buy a bridge with holes that match. Problem solved.
