Changing my 5 string from Low B to High C

Sign in to disble this ad
I never really use my Low B and would like to reconfigure it to EADGC. I was planning on going out to pick up a high C string tonight and switching everything around (planning to replace all 5 existing strings with new).

This my secondary bass, it's a Schecter Elite 5 with low action.

What are the chances I can make this change without having to take it to the local shop for a set-up? Unfortunately, I'm not experienced with truss/nut adj., etc..and have always had the shop take care of that stuff.

Any advice appreciated!

Thanks,

Scott

When I made that switch (I play EADGC also), my bass didn't need to be re-adjusted. Not the truss rod, but perhaps the action. I think you're going to be fine.

And do plan on getting a full set of strings. You're high C is going to stick out like a bright soar thumb if that's the only new string you're putting on. I speak from experience.

I restrung one of my 5ers to high C and all I needed to do was lower my saddles a tad and I didn't need to do that, I just found I could run the action lower with the smaller strings.
