Changing nut, never done it before

Sign in to disble this ad
I just got a metal '79ish T40 nut to replace the busted black plastic one on my '85 T40. How do I get the old one off properly and what glue do I use to adhere the new one? Since its a factory T40 nut going on my T40 should there be any problems? Like just a quick switch or do I have to check stuff like alignment out and whatever? I have no idea what Im doing here but I wanna do this right..of course LOL

Use wood glue, and only a SMALL dab. To get the old one off use a chisel and hit it from the fretboard, in direction to the headstock. Use a rag between the chisel and the nut so you dont scratch anything else. Then just tap it with a hammer and it will come right off.
