changing strap position

so i LOVE the sound of my new-to-me 2004 thumb (BO). but i HATE the neck dive and imbalance. experimenting with tape and a long strap, the bass feels great when i attach the strap to the bottom anchor (at the very bottom of the bass) and taped to the lower horn instead of the upper horn. this provides the proper balance, and actually makes the first 3/4 of the neck extremely accessible. SO i am just about ready to drill and make the lower horn the permanant strap anchor. has anyone had a similar experience? any advice?
