Changing the string spacing on my JO4. Possible?

Sign in to disble this ad
Love my Lakland Skyline Joe Osborn 4-string, but am wondering whether it's possible to change the string spacing at the bridge. I wouldn't want to replace the bridge, but thought it might be possible to swap out the saddles. Also, would the narrower string spacing mean the strings aren't aligned with the pole pieces of the pickups. Would this matter?

Any ideas appreciated.

1) Yes it is possible. You just have to get new saddles that are uncut, and cut the grooves in the right places where you want them. You would probably want to redo the nut too, so get a blank one of those and do likewise.

2) If your string is not right over the pole piece, you will get less string movement 'picked up' , which is bad. Check to see if your modifications would effect this. If they do, then maybe hot rail style pickups would be the answer?
