Changing Strings, have a question.

Sign in to disble this ad
Can anyone help me with a simple question?

Will changing the strings on my bass offset my inotation?

I plan on using strings of the same gauge, 55-110. Both Nickle Steels. The strings on my bass now are D'addarios, I plan on switching to Ernie Balls, if that helps at all.

Thanks for any help.

It should not affect your intonation, as you need to adjust the screws on the bridge to modify it.

If you change string guage size, your intonation will most likely be affected.

It may be affected a little bit, but it should be minimal since they are the same gauges.

If you're very picky about your intonation you'll notice it. If not then it probably won't bother you. I intonate (or at least check it) every string change even if I am using the same brand/gauge. It only takes a few seconds to do I don't really see a reason not to.

Ya, set the intonation after every string change, especially if you're changing brands or gauges.

if you set your intonation while you had grungy old strings on, then your intonation may be affected if you put shiny new ones on. But if you set it when your D'addarios were new, then the affect will be less, or none.
