Changing tuner heads

Sign in to disble this ad
Ok so I have a korean made spector and the tuner heads are a little worn (I bought this bass used) I want to put the real tuner heads that come on the expensive spectors. I know its just two screws to take off the tuner head but Im a little hesistant in doing this. I have done other setups including truss ross and bridge and stuff but this...

Any help would be appreciated thanks.

Invest in a nice set of smaller screwdrivers, or at least one that fits the screws on the tuners nicely- stripping these can be a real PITA. Beyond that, it shouldn't be too tough.

Do what I did when my Stingray tuners became victims of oxidation. Use nice clean screwdrivers, turn slowly. If you rush into it you will almost certainly strip something. Take care and take notice of how the tuners are assembled as you take them off.

hint: Take one of the original tuners off and replace it and see if the new one functions as well as the other originals. If not you have done something wrong.

When you re-insert the screws, rub the threads across some soap or paraffin to reduce friction before you turn them in. It reduces the chance of twisting off a screw and of buggering a screw head due to high turning resistance.
