That's not a chip as much as a character mark Unless your are familiar at wood finishing, it's hard to get a flawless invisible repair. Sometimes it looks worse if you are a noob.

I assume it's a see through finish: and you are worried about it spreading and want to seal it? Get some polyurethane varnish (make sure it's waterbase!) and put it on in very thin layers with an artists brush to gradually build the repair up to the level of the finish, say at least six coats. Make sure the first coat is wetting the wood and getting under the existing finish by brushing it well in. Let it dry well between coats and I would cover it against dust in some manner. When you get there, gently sand it level with wet (water) black waterproof sand paper, 1000 grit: keep it wet! Then polish with a furniture or guitar polish. Your repair should be smooth enough if you build it up slowly that you won't have to level too much, merely polish it into the finish. the edges of the chip will still likely be visible close up, but a few feet away, look OK.

Its a painted finish. Its a lovely baby blue/green. I'm not that worried about it. Its just a muck around bass. I was just seeing if there was any quick fixes other than my usual trip to the auto store to get a colour match touch up paint. I'm thinking a nice vw colour will be the match.

D'oh, never mind. LOL, The problem with auto touch up paint is it is usually solvent based. If your finish is a water based paint, as many today are, the solvent may lift the paint around the repair. An autobody man told me this. That's all I can say, it may be fine or may not. Not much help today! Good luck.

Nope. Nailpolish has acetone which WILL lift ANY finish!
