thinking of buying a bass online. the only imprefection is a small chip on the back of the neck below the headstock. how noticeable do you think this would be. is it a cheap fix?

Only someone playing the bass will notice it. It wouldn't bother me a bit. I don't get obsessed with trivialities. Too bad you can't play the bass first.

If I really wanted that bass and could live with that imperfection, I'd negotiate a slightly lower price and buy it. It could be fixed quite easily so you wouldn't feel it when playing, but you might still see it.

If you're still worried, take a pass on the bass. There are literally dozens of basses for sale used every day at very low prices. Many of them are in pristine condition.

Cosmetic fixes tend not to be inexpensive, as they are elective. Do it yourself w/superglue, but you're always going to know it's there, if it's bugging you this much from the get-go.

Musical instruments are tools, not trophies.
