Chrome to Satin

Tried searching for this already and didn't find anything..

I'm looking for satin hardware, and there's not much to be found. Is there anything you can do to standard chrome hardware to give it a satin finish?

Wet sand (or regular), media blast, or spray paint come to mind. But you'd want to try it on something as a tester first.

I will say from experience that sanding chrome is not easy and getting it to look good is even harder. I did it to rough up a surface before I put chalkboard paint on it (bridge, neck plate and tuners), but I knew once sanded it was never going back.
