ciggy burn on Fender headstock..can it be sanded/buffed out?

Sign in to disble this ad

i know the photo isn't very clear, it's all I have though
it would depend on how deep the burn went,I suppose, right?

there's a used bass being offered to me pretty cheaply,I guess.
the one flaw is the burn mark from where a prior owner kept his ciggy burning behind the nut..not a bad flaw, but it'd be nice to remove,I suppose

but anyone have experience w this?
thnx!

You could smack the body around with your car keys and tell everyone it's a custom relic...

Cig burn

I played in a CW band back in the 70's.
All of the guit players had multiple burns on their headstocks.

Now they call it road worn, vibe, or mojo!

It will be worth more in 25 years if you do nothing to it.

yeah, no big deal.. you're right, gives it"vibe"

I've gotta loosen up w that stuff sometimes,
the polishing cloths,keeping everything perfect..
I'll save my OCD for my Roscoe, and try to relax a bit more w this Fender..bash her up a little more..

You know how it is with black basses, like black cars..u wanna get every fingerprint, especially when their new.

As a smoker, let me say this habit is retarded.
Are you smoking that cigarette, or using it as a prop?
Either smoke the thing or put it out you poser.

I'd just leave the burn.

Mojo. Something most basses don't have.

It's mojo. Like worn finish or rusted hardware. Leave it. There's magic in it that makes the bass sound better.

I agree..as a fellow smoker...

I knew a guy who used to put smokes in there...and that is gay.

Having a burn mark left however...is cool .

Yah, I had that same burn mark on my '78 P-bass, and I'm the idiot that put it there. I'm also the idiot that spilled 120 proof Yukon Jack down the front of my shirt and Consequently on the back of my bass, melting the clearcoat finish.
Plenty of (stupid) mojo there.

geez,
if Yukon Jack will melt a hard, poly finish off a bass, imagine what it does to the lining of a man's stomach?

All this talk about "Mojo" makes me feel like I'm in some medieval town with a bunch of superstitious villagers babbling about the mystical properties of horse dung. Is there anyone who can answer the OP's question instead of trying to persuade him against a decision he's already made?

it IS a good deal, and a cool bass. I'm looking forward to taking it out and playing it
Unless I missed something in translation, it sounds to me like he's decided to leave it. Good decision. It's cool...and I'm not even a smoker. I'm not sure mojo or even horse dung has has magical powers, but I'd leave the existing cigarette burn rather than goof up the finish, trying to wipe it away.

heh heh..I passed on this bass, the same Geddy is listed for the same price on fleabay($550),
I guess everyone thought the burn mark was cool, they wanted it to stay!

maybe someone at Fender will read this & then they'll put little "road-worn" burns their new Mexican line and charge 1k for it..

But does the ebay bass have a burn mark? That, it seems is the selling point. Make sure it is properly burned before bidding. Otherwise= no mojo.
