Cleaning corrosion?

I'm considering buying a used Squier Classic Vibe Jazz bass. It's in good condition, but has a little corrosion on the metal plate under the volume and tone knobs. Nothing bad, just typical of what you'd see if someone didn't wipe the bass down after playing it.

What's the best way to clean this off - CAN it be cleaned off?

If its not "pitted" too deeply just get some chrome polish.
You might need to use a buffing wheel.
